Hi my name is Robert-Jan, RJ for short, and I am the founder of van Veen Teaching. Before I moved to Sweden I’d been a science teacher, teaching mostly physics to 12-18 year olds.
My aim is to help as many international teachers as possible who have immigrated to Sweden to transition into and master teaching LGR11.
Like you, I emigrated to Sweden. I didn't know anything about the Swedish educational system. I didn't know anything about LGR11, core content or knowledge requirements.
On top of that I barely spoke a word Swedish. This meant that I was very much dependent on the information from my colleagues, managers and the principal. Like you, I quickly noticed that colleagues, managers and the principals had other things to do than to guide me through the basics of the Swedish educational system. “Just follow the planning”, was the answer I got. Maybe you didn’t even have a planning at all.
I then set out to find information on LGR11, in English. You probably did the same and found the translation of the LGR11 and a brief outline of the curriculum. That's pretty much all there is available on "the interwebs" about LGR11 in English.
All the really useful information about core content, knowledge requirements, assessment and grading is in Swedish.
This left me with the only option to just get stuck in and doing the best I could. Honestly if you are like me you were not really sure if you were doing it right. I remember that feeling very well and it did NOT feel good.
Since you just moved to Sweden, I can imagine that you have not yet signed up for an SFI-course. Even if you did, it’s unlikely that you will learn enough Swedish to get through the documentation written by an official public entity.
Besides that, you just moved to a new country and - and let's face it - you would like to enjoy it.
Here is what I offer you: A course in LGR11 Basics.
In this course you will get the benefits of my mistakes and now having enough experience to show you how to fix things. You'll have the benefit of my experience in the Swedish educational culture. You'll also benefit from my grasp of the language and having done the courses in assessment and grading via Skolverket. If this sounds interesting, click on the button below and receive emails on how the course is progressing to take shape.
Come and work with me, it will not only save you time it will give you guidelines so you can be confident that you're working according to LGR11 and it will also save you arguments with your colleagues, managers, the principal, your students and their parents. Don't hesitate and let me update you on the development of the course.
So, if you're ...
An international teacher who is (going to be) teaching in Sweden and following the LGR11 curriculum.
A manager, HoD, HoY or (assistant) principal who will work with international teachers who are (going to be) teaching in Sweden and following the LGR11 curriculum.
You’re probably here on this page to find out more about LGR11, because you want to be ahead of the curve so you can do a better job for your students in LESS TIME and enjoy Sweden.
That's why I've created a program on the basics of LGR11 grade 4 - 9.
This program is specifically designed to:
Give the overall aim of the schools in Sweden,
Give information about the 3 chapters in LGR11.
Give information about the way assessment and grading works according to LGR11,
Give information about how to design a course planning,
I'm putting the program on pre-sale and it will go live on May 10, 2021.
The pre-sale lasts until April 31, 2021 23.59 .
